What is a three-phase inverter used for?
Three-phase inverters function as variable-frequency drives to control the speed of AC motors and for high power applications such as HVDC power transmissions. The typical application of a three-phase inverter using six isolated gate drivers is shown in Figure 1.
What is a reference inverter?
This reference design is capable of operating from a loosely regulated 24-V DC input and generates four pairs of 15-V and –8-V outputs suitable for powering six IGBT gate drivers. This reference design uses a single transformer for generating power rails for all three arms of the 3-phase inverter.
How does a traction inverter work?
The traction inverter efficiently converts DC power from a high-voltage battery to alternating phases of power needed to drive multi-phase motors. Galvanic isolation is required to protect people, as well as the low-voltage components on the cold side of the system, from the high-voltage traction inverter on the hot side of the system.
